Similarities Between Athletes and DIY Lovers

It’s no doubt that DIY lovers and handymen are similar to those who are active in sports, especially those competing. Both have discipline, respect for their gears, and are physically and mentally fit. Let’s break it down, shall we?

Discipline

Those who love to DIY have the discipline to study every single detail of the project they wish to do. After all, if they don’t perform the correct procedure, they’ll be stuck with a broken project in the future which won’t save time and money. It takes a lot of discipline to do this studying and analyzing part because some may be complacent especially when they have done several projects before. Likewise, athletes have the discipline to continue training and practicing. They work hard to beat their own records and hopefully others’ as well. Athletes need to have the discipline and enthusiasm if they want their hard work to pay off.

Respect for Equipment

Some athletes have to work with a few pieces of equipment. A real athlete is one who can respect each piece by making sure it’s clean and doesn’t need repairing. It’s the same thing with those who go to a public gym; they have to respect the equipment by cleaning it up which is also a way to show respect to the next user. Even if that gear is yours, you still need to take good care of it. The same thing can be said with DIY lovers. They have to maintain their tools whether it’s a sander, a miter saw, or some other device. No matter how small it is, a true DIY lover takes care of the tools he owns (or borrows).

Physical Fitness

DIY lovers often have to carry and transfer heavy equipment or materials. Once in a while, they deal with logs, wooden boards, and heavy tools, which make them physically fit. DIY lovers also have to stay healthy because they can’t finish projects when they’re sick. Apparently, the same goes with an athlete. He or she can’t train, practice, or compete if he/she isn’t fit. Athletes need to mind their exercise and diet so that they can enjoy the sports they’re into.

Healthy Mind

Lastly, both athletes and DIY lovers have a healthy mind because they frequently deal with problems that challenge their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They need to be mentally present at the moment so they can deal adequately with what’s at hand. They shouldn’t be absent-minded or else they could lose in a contest or jeopardize their safety with tools.
